The four municipalities in the north of the metropolitan region of Buenos Aires (Tigre, San Fernando, San Isidro and Vicente López) conform the NMR, one of the most dynamic regions of the Province of Buenos Aires that today represents more than 10% of the GDP of the province, and have the potential to be its engine of development. However, this region also faces the typical challenges of large cities, including transportation and mobility deficits. In this sense, the excessive reliance this districts has on the City of Buenos Aires as a trip attractor and the use of private cars as the main mode of transportation to complete this trips, has generated a crisis that so far has not been solved.
Public: Public transport modes,essentially bus and train.
Non-motorized modes: travel by foot, bicycle and other.
Motorized private modes.

In 2012 the four municipalities that make up the NMR convened an Ideas Competition organized by the Metropolitan Foundation, to design a sustainable transport system for the region, in order to solve current problems and lay the foundation for sustainable development in the long term. BerecoLabs presented a disruptive proposal to solve the mobility, based on two main concepts:
1) Use public transportation to greatly improve the connection between the northern districts and the city of Buenos Aires, and
2) Generate a multimodal system that promotes internal mobility of the northern districts to make it progressively less dependent of the city of Buenos Aires in the long term.
The proposed solutions (actions) were developed along three main axes:
1. linking of the NMR - CABA,
2. internal mobility of the NMR, and
3. linking the RMN and the AMBA.
All in the context of an integrated vision, aimed at solving current problems (5 years) while creating a new reality for the region in the future (20 years).

The result of its implementation will have significant consequences not only for northern districts but for the entire region. For summing up we present some representative indicators calculated for the time horizon of 20 years:
- There will be a reduction in car trips by half (from 34% today to 15% in 20 years). One third of the trips will be made on foot or non-motorized (bike + skateboards + rollers, etc.).
- More than half of the poor neighbourhoods (shantytowns and settlements) will have a railway or monorail (cheap, reliable and fast modes) within 10 blocks, vs 17% today.
- The fact that users will be less dependent of cars will allow them to save 40% on the cost of transport emissions.
- The emissions of greenhouse gases will have decreased by 18% from the current levels, even though in the same period the number of trips will have increased by 20%. And for the time horizon for the first 5 years, the capacity of the railways will have increased by 20% to 130 million passengers a year. Every day there will be 80 billion less in private car travel.

At BerecoLabs we aim to develop inclusive proposals, based on the best ideas, but also information and specific quantitative indicators, both to characterize the elements of proposals both to estimate economic partner impacts achieved in time. As you can see by the conclusions of this Lab this proposal would have significant positive impacts on mobility and the future sustainable development of all the metropolitan area of the city of Buenos Aires.
